A very fine c. 1908 Irish Crochet/Befordshire bobbin lace jacket. This jacket was found locally in a fine Washington, Virginia estate. The lace insertions are arranged in a vertical manner and widen at the hem to give a wonderful flare starting at the waist. The interior lining of transparent chiffon remains and the interior edges are trimmed at the seams with the same double runched chiffon. The front closes with six nickel plated hook and eyes. Sleeves are wide and have a stylish flare to the cuff. The Irish crochet floral motifs are raised three dimensionally. Dress is entirely handstitched and all the lace is handmade. The panels of crochet and bobbin lace on this jacket are skillfully put together to create a stunning example of high Edwardian fashion.
Condition: Exterior - excellent. Interior lining shows wear at the shoulders and upper back area. A few small holes at the center back. Otherwise the lining still remains and the silk chiffon is still supple and strong. Jacket has been cleaned gently to remove storage odor and light surface soiling.
Size: 33" wiast, 35" bust, 18" shoulder to shoulder, 35" shoulder to hem, 12" sleeve length.
Price: $895.00 (SOLD) |
